Send texts under your own business name

A recognisable sender name tells customers who is messaging them before they open the text. Request a branded sender ID through the portal, subject to approval.

Why your sender name matters

When a text arrives from an unknown number, many people ignore it or assume it is a scam. A message that shows your business name in the sender field, such as BLOOMHAIR or OAKDENTAL, is instantly recognisable. That builds trust, improves the chance your reminder or alert gets read, and reduces the confused calls asking who sent the message. Sender IDs can be up to 11 characters, letters and numbers only.

Requesting a sender ID

You request a sender ID from inside the Orbis SMS portal. Tell us the name you want to use and how it relates to your business. Each request is reviewed before approval, and we may ask for supporting information. This process exists to stop impersonation of banks, government bodies and well-known brands, which is a growing problem across UK mobile networks. Approved sender IDs then appear as an option when you send.

Things to know

Alphanumeric sender IDs are one-way: recipients cannot reply to a name. Some UK networks operate sender ID protection schemes, and certain names are restricted. Availability can vary by destination. Choose a short, clear name your customers already associate with you rather than a slogan or a generic word.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Most straightforward requests are reviewed quickly, but timing depends on the name and whether we need more information. Requests that look similar to banks, public bodies or other brands take longer and may be declined. You can send using the default sender while your request is reviewed.
No. Alphanumeric sender IDs are one-way, so replies cannot be received. Include a phone number or web link in the message so customers know how to get back to you.
Requests are declined when a name could mislead recipients, resembles another organisation, or cannot be linked clearly to your business. Contact support@orbisdigital.co.uk and we will explain the reason and help you choose an alternative.
