Verification codes that protect your customers

A one-time passcode sent by text confirms that a person holds the phone number they gave you. Orbis Verify sends OTP messages using your standard SMS credits.

Why it matters

What goes wrong without it

Fake sign-ups, stolen passwords and account takeovers create real costs: fraudulent orders, chargebacks, support time and damaged trust. Passwords alone are often reused or leaked, and email confirmation does little to prove a person is genuine. Asking for a code sent to a mobile phone adds a step that most fraudsters cannot easily pass, while being quick and familiar for real customers. Without it, businesses either accept more risk or add clumsy manual checks that frustrate the people they are trying to serve.

Verification codes and OTP
How Orbis SMS helps

Step by step

  1. 1

    Decide where codes are needed

Identify the moments that matter most, such as new account sign-up, login from a new device, password resets and changes to payment or delivery details. Starting with a few high-risk actions keeps the experience smooth and familiar for genuine customers.

  2. 2

    Request a recognisable sender ID

Apply for a sender ID that matches your business name so customers know the code is genuine. Requests are reviewed and subject to approval. A consistent sender helps customers spot fake messages that claim to come from you, which protects your reputation as well as their accounts.

  3. 3

    Use a clear code message

Keep the wording short: your business name, the code, how long it lasts and a reminder never to share it. Leave out links entirely. A single-part message also keeps each code to one credit, which matters when sign-ups and logins add up to thousands of codes a month.

  4. 4

    Monitor usage and credits

Verification traffic can grow quickly as your customer base grows. Track volumes and credit usage in your reports, keep your balance topped up, and talk to us if you need higher volumes. Keeping an eye on volumes also helps you spot unusual spikes early.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short validity periods are safer. Five to ten minutes is common for login and reset codes. Make sure the message states the expiry so customers know to act promptly.
